An appeal for help

St Peter’s Church, Hepworth is one of many medieval churches in Suffolk and dates back mainly to the 14th and 15th century although there has been a church in the site since the Domesday Survey in 1086. It was reroofed in the late 19th century, following a fire in the thatched roof.

The church now faces a substantial challenge as the roof has begun to leak and we have been advised that it needs completely retiling. The Parochial Church Council (PCC) have set a target of £200,000 to carry out this work.

This is a very large sum for a small village such as Hepworth to raise but there are funds available from charities and organisations. Each has its own application process, which makes raising this money a time consuming process. I have agreed to lead the appeal but I am hoping to recruit a small team to support me. If you are IT savvy, can manipulate online forms and write letters, I would be very grateful for your help.

While the congregation at St Peter’s is small, the church is a visible presence in the village and can be seen from a distance. It is a focal point for funerals, baptisms and weddings and sits in our peaceful cemetery. To lose the church would be a tragedy for Hepworth.

CAN YOU HELP?
