Hepworth Art News – August 2025

Every June, artists who are affiliated to Suffolk Open Studios group, open up their studios to the public. I am always amazed at the quantity and quality of artists here in Suffolk. For the first time, in June, we opened the Hepworth Art ‘studio’, or rather Hepworth Pavilion.

Although visitors were a little sparse, we very much enjoyed our ‘Open Weekend’. It was a rather more low key in comparison to our annual Art Exhibition which this year takes place on 20th and 21st September in the Pavilion and St Peter’s Church.

Since the beginning of the year, topics on our quarterly programme have included a diverse range of topics from the elegance of ballet to intriguing abstract with tangles and zentangles. Another highlight in our calendar was a visit to Porter’s Lodge, Cavenham where we painted ‘en plain air’. We managed to find the only day in about 60 that was cooler with a little rain! It is a fascinating garden with interesting nooks and vistas around every corner place – well worth a visit.

We very look forward to welcoming you to our annual Art Exhibition on 20th and 21st September. In excess of one hundred original pieces of artwork will be displayed in the Pavilion and in St Peter’s Church. Artwork will be on sale at extremely reasonable prices – though we are more than delighted for you to spend a pleasant hour or two just browsing.

Scrumptious refreshments will be available (£3 for a slice of cake or ‘a something savoury’ plus coffee, tea or soft drink). Also there’s an opportunity to win original artwork. The popular observational ‘quiz’ will feature again this year. Children especially enjoy doing this quiz (sometimes with the help of others!). There is a small prize for all children taking part.

Looking forward to seeing you on 21st and 22nd September in The Pavilion, Church Lane and also in St Peter’s Church, Church Lane.
