Louise Brouwer gave an enjoyable resume of Thomas Gainsborough’s life and works and his deep connection to Sudbury and Suffolk. While he would have liked to concentrate on landscape painting, in his times portrait painting was the economic necessity although he managed to get some landscape work into most of his paintings. We also heard about the major refurbishment and extension of the museum at Gainsborough’s house which is about to happen and look forward to a visit there in future.
On 12th April we have Rodney Tibbs talking to us about Petra, often described as the rose red city. The meeting is at Hepworth Pavilion at 7.30pm when visitors who want to hear our speaker and are interested in our WI are very welcome.
If you want more information about Hepworth and District WI please ring me or for general information about the WI look online at either the national federation web pages (https://www.thewi.org.uk) or the west suffolk one (http://j.mp/WI-suffolk-west).
