Where did the year go? Now in the art club’s last quarter of the year, a lot has happened. A few of us have had personal changes and challenges and have been supported throughout by thoughtful, sensitive and supportive group members. On a personal note, each and every person (including other friends in Hepworth) has built a haven of tranquility throughout a rather turbulent year. If I lived to a thousand years, I could not thank them enough for everything.
Our painting programme has continued to present challenges too! We just love to stretch our ‘comfort zones’! Thankfully, there is a safety net; should the ’challenge’ be a step too far, we can create our own painting of choice. I suspect that might happen when we attempt self portraits!
Trevor Osborne provided an inspirational session using soft pastels. If you were brave enough to venture out during the weekend of our Exhibition, you may recall a few ballerinas dotted around. Another inspiring and local artist (Hepworth), Jane Beaumont, gently coaxed us into the art of collage. Therapeutic and definitely makes one ‘live in the moment’ as each single piece of paper becomes so much more than a piece of paper! Our thanks also to Caroline and Derek who organised another coach trip to see the Van Gogh Exhibition at The Tate. Much enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.
The Highlight of the year was our Annual Art Exhibition. Over 100 paintings were on display. The weather did its best to make it a washout! Whilst numbers were down on last year, we did have a reasonable number of visitors with loyal stalwarts who visit every year and new visitors. Many thanks to you all and especially those intrepid supporters who braved lashing rain on the Sunday!
