After all the festive action of December, on 7th January, the art club resumed. We had a gentle morning easing ourselves back into painting mode. It didn’t take long though (after a good deal of catching up with news), before we resumed where we had left off!
At the time of writing, we have painted garden birds which coincided with the Great Garden Bird Watch. Aptly, following birds, we painted winter trees – which have their very own special appeal and shapes (not to mention challenges!). Our programme for the rest of January and February includes painting and making bookmarks. A new venture for us – a follow up report next time!
Predictably, included in this first quarter’s programme is Winter Landscapes. We are probably not going to be brave enough to paint en plein air but we do have some reference photos. Some of which were of Hepworth when the ‘Beast from the East’ struck during March last year. If, at the time of writing, the weather forecast is accurate, we may even have more reference photos. The following week will be Line Drawing (not dancing!), and the next week painting Reflections. Life Drawing will finish off February – though hopefully not our artistic ability! Hopefully, by the time March arrives, the days will be brighter and certainly longer. Our Still Life at the beginning of March will be on the theme of Shrove Tuesday. Then, just to add a tone of reality, we have included ‘Rainy Days – lots of Drips! To cheer us up and to look forward to good things to come, the following week, we shall paint a Seascape or two. Finally, to complete the first quarter of 2019 on a floral note a Seasonal bowl of flowers.
Stay warm!
