Hepworth Art News – December 2018

Despite a rainy Saturday, we had over a hundred visitors to our Art Exhibition. Sunday was sunnier and many more visitors arrived from near and far to view our year’s artwork. A very big thank you to all our visitors for making it so worthwhile.

Thank you also to art club members and their partners/spouses for the huge amount of hard work and support in baking cakes, picture hanging, tent erecting and working so well to make it all work. A brilliant team of people who also happen to be pretty good artists! The winner of the prize draw on Saturday 6th October of a painting of beautiful flowers by June Butt was won by Lesley Savage. On Sunday, Ron Bacon, won the boats painting by Wendy.

Since the exhibition, we have enjoyed a variety of art topics, including an interesting morning devoted to collage which we all found quite a challenge! Also, inspired by the delightful colours this year, Autumn leaves just begged to be painted though some us used them to great effect as printing tools. During this last quarter, our frieze project for WW1 was completed and displayed directly beneath the village frieze for all to see on 11th November. Children from the village who visited the exhibition, were invited to contribute by drawing/making poppies or any other artwork. A tuitional DVD meant we had a relaxed and inspiring start to one of our Mondays when an inspirational artist demonstrated and shared his tips with us. As the year draws to a close, in addition to Robins we are looking forward to ‘pond life – all creatures, great and small’. ‘Winter Light’ and ‘Music and Musicians’. Our final session, ‘Abstract painting’, will gently ease us into the Festive break.

From us all at Hepworth Art, we wish you a very enjoyable Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2019.
