After our enjoyable although damp outing to Helmingham Hall in August we were back at the Pavilion for our September meeting. Unfortunately we had a few apologies so Geoff Evans only had 8 of us in his audience. He showed us some wonderful pictures of Scotland both in summer and winter when he is out and about with his camera enjoying climbing many of the “munros” of Scotland. Often accompanied by his wife they seemed to think nothing of walking and climbing for twelve hours in the summer while the light lasted. We could only admire their bravery and fitness but they did get to enjoy the scenery with few other people around
We followed the talk with refreshments and a discussion of forthcoming events arranged by our west Suffolk federation but then had to discuss the future of our WI
Unfortunately with falling numbers we do not think we can continue next year which will make our 70 th birthday celebrations in December also our last meeting. If we could find a dozen women who would be willing to join and take a very small part in helping to run our WI we could continue and hope to eventually get to our centenary like a number of other WIs. However we need these people to come forward now as next year it will be too late. There will be nothing to pay until January so if you are interested in keeping a small piece of local history alive please do contact me
Currently we cover Hepworth, Barningham, Coney Weston and Hopton so there should be enough women in these villages to keep one small WI going. If you want to find out more about Hepworth and District WI please ring me or for general information about the WI look online at the West Suffolk Federation (http://j.mp/WI-suffolk-west)
We meet at Hepworth Pavilion on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7.30pm and visitors are always welcome. Our next meeting is on 11 th October when Pip Wright will be talking about Witches in and around Suffolk
