Hepworth Platinum Jubilee Party

In 2022 Queen Elizabeth II had reigned for 70 years, she came to the throne on the death of her father King George VI in 1952.

As the longest reigning Monarch in the UK it was decided to have an extra days Bank Holiday in June to celebrate this momentous feat. The Government also decided to celebrate this by way of a chain of beacons set up across the country to be lit at 9pm on Thursday, 2nd June, 2022.

Hepworth Parish Council organised a Jubilee Party for Hepworth around this and booked Mick the Baker and his band to entertain us as well as a Bouncy Castle, Drinks Bar, Burger Van and of course a Beacon made by Perry Penn. The Hepworth Angels sang and 160 villagers and their friends attended the evening event.

The beacon was duly lit at 9pm to go with many thousands of others across the country. After an anxious wait for the pyre to catch, flames eventually burst forth and lit up the playing fields to much cheering and relief!

Thanks to everyone who helped put on the event and also decorate the area with Union Jacks to celebrate this rare occasion.
